Australia’s only dedicated biodiscovery sample management facility
Compounds Australia, located within the Griffith Institute for Drug Discovery, provides cost-effective sample management and logistics throughout the drug discovery pipeline.
By securely storing and curating sample libraries, we allow translational health researchers worldwide to outsource their sample and natural product logistics and focus on results.
Through specialist infrastructure and expertise, we’re pursuing a vision to transform sample management practice in Australia, in support of smarter, faster and more efficient drug discovery.
1.5 million compounds
We curate libraries of more than 1.5 million samples. Open library samples are conveniently searchable via our custom web platform Smart Compounds.
4 dedicated robotics platforms
Compounds Australia employs a custom suite of robotics and liquid handling infrastructure that sets the benchmark for sample management practice in Australia.
Servicing 150+ drug discovery projects annually
Compounds Australia supports drug discovery and life science research conducted by our member organisations across the biotech and pharmaceutical sectors.
Specialist staff
Our experts in sample management, automation and data handling bring combined decades of lab and facility management experience.
National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy
Compounds Australia, through Therapeutic Innovation Australia (TIA), is part of the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS), a network of world-class research infrastructure facilities that drives and supports greater innovation in the Australian research sector and associated economic impact..
Compounds Australia is a member to the TIA Small Molecule capability, an integrated capability network of National Research Infrastructure, available to support researchers through the TIA Pipeline Accelerator programs.
Funding
Compounds Australia is supported by fee-for-service contributions. Our equipment and facility purchases have been made possible with support from the following funding partners:
ACRF Centre for Compound Management and Logistics
Compounds Australia will soon complete an infrastructure refreshment program made possible by a $2M contribution from the Australian Cancer Research Foundation, along with support from Therapeutic Innovation Australia, The Ian Potter Foundation, the Queensland Government and Griffith University.
This support has allowed us to commission an integrated suite of next-generation sample management technology comprising a Brooks SampleStore II, a HighRes Biosolutions robotics platform and data management software.
Case Study: Profiling the Medicines for Malaria Venture Pathogen Box
The Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV) Pathogen Box is an open-source collection of compounds used in the drug discovery pipeline for novel compounds against neglected tropical parasites.
Compounds Australia’s specialised facilities allowed for the storage and provision of MMV compounds with maximal stability, directly contributing to the reliability and reproducibility of results and allowing numerous compound concentrations and biological assays to be investigated.
This project is an exemplar for Compounds Australia’s capability as a compound management facilitator in the biological profiling of an open-source drug discovery project, research that identified new leads from the Pathogen Box library for further drug development.
